Default Copper John strikes again!

I caught this little fellow on a green copper john this evening. He had quite a bit of tug in him on a 5wt.

Very cool! I'll have to try them here. I've had good sucess on trout, but never tried them in warm water. How do you fish them?

I generally fish it using slow strips trying to keep it on the bottom. Having said that, the small pond that I was fishing was just stocked the other day with these guys, so they aren't quite "on to me"....yet. Good luck!

Nice , glad to see someone catching fish

The copper john perplexes me, I just suck with it. The two guys I go with most just flat hammer fish on them but zilch for me....dont know what it is, but while I carry 4 dozen of them I rarely get my hands smelling like fish with them.

CJ is an very on or off fly for me. Catch a half dozen or not a nibble. I do need to fish for cats on a nymph next year. It's not a particularly rare occurrence so I need to give it some effort. Even a smallish cat on the fly would be a fun battle.
