Ive been looking to get into carp because ive heard how much fun it is but I have no idea where to fish or what to fish. All I really know about them is they are super spooky and you have to be really quiet.

What kind of spots do you look for and what kind of flies work the best?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated

There were tons of carp in the backwaters of the Mississippi just upstream of St Cloud when I was growing up. I’m sure there are still plenty around, but there did seem to be less by the mid 1990s, not sure why.

I’d suggest looking for shallow, slow or stagnant water in rivers. I never fly fished for them back then (dough balls and corn... or just a spear or bow and arrow) so I can’t help with what to catch them on.

They will cruise around in pods and seemed to be in shallow water most of the time earlier in the season - May/June.
