Thread: Super shallow creeks!

  1. Default Super shallow creeks!

I've never seen such shallow water before.
I still had fun with my 4wt. I had a small brownie on, but he came off before I got a pic. I caught about 50 chubs from 8" to the tiny 2"er in the pic.
I was the only person fishing that stream today. I had my mind made up to have a great time in the wonderful pristine small creek.
Everything is relative!! I was going to release the fish anyway so I had a blast with the small chubs........ they fight like a trout, and they hit flies like a trout!
Joe's Hoppers and Hares Ear nymphs.
    Happy Labor Day.

great pix! I've had plenty fun out on the stream even when its low. I use dry flys also if the waters shallow. if its shallow but a foot or 2 I will also try a nymph.

    McFly,

I use drys also. What better fun to catch a fish on than a tiny "top water" lure!!

Lots of hurricanes with this Global Warming. I can't wait for the heavy rains to come.

I am up in ohio. no hurricanes here but no rain either! just had some a few days ago but didn't do much but muddy the water up. what are your fav drys? I luse the parachute adams the most but also use griffins gnats too. I liek to use a daves hopper for top water also.

Fished this place below last weekend:

And caught about a dozen smallmouth similar to this one below in about 4-6 inches of water.

Caught it on a black wooly bugger with a red head drifting it through the current.

    McFly,

Joes' Hoppers #10 and tiny #16 Adams and #16 Lt Cahill.

Actually I've caught more fish with my "home made" drys!! I purchased a couple Micro-Packs by Metz from Cabelas. Only $10 and they come in size 12 to 18. These beautiful hackles are long and will make several drys from each hackle.

Sometimes I just tie the hackle to a #12 or #14 dry fly hook, and sometimes I first put on some dubbing or chennile. They float better than the store bought drys and look much better in the water! LOL

I love to tie flies and these are super cheap to make. I'm tying everything I can think of. Tiny foam body dries with drake tails. Floating foam body woolybuggers.

This keeps me busy until the creeks fill up again.

    Thanks for the tip, pal

I have metz dry fly capes in black and brown and some other name brand in grizzly I got off ebay for a great price. hundreds of feathers! I haven't sued that many drys this year. I love me some daves hopper and adams flies tho. dries are great for shallow waters and deep waters at that! especially right before dark when the gills and bass start hitting the top.
