Default The prespawn small jaw bite has been, well....

    Stellar.

Winter went a little long this year, and temps are rising in a hurry. So the smallies have been feeding what seems to be even heavier than normal to get it all in before they spawn. We've been busy.....

I got a beauty in the Housatonic the other day, mixed in amongst the trout. Dark copper color, about 16 inches long, whatever that translates into in pounds. Weighed about the same as a meatloaf for two, with plenty left over for sandwiches.

The smallie took a jig hook Euro nymph, which just proves, once again, that the smallmouth bass is just as sophisticated as your trout and salmon.

Nice Fish! I need to get out and do some of that myself and let the trout rest for awhile.

Couple more, different (colder) water shed so they were still in prespawn. And a bonus kitty on our home water. It tapped 33"!
