Default Fly fishing near Austin??

Hi All,
Going to TX for the weekend and I was wondering whether I should bring my fly rod...

I will be near Austin (North-West) and would love to hear about suggestions you guys might have.

Thanks!

Default Re: Fly fishing near Austin??

The warm-water species slow way down in winter and the cold front that's rattling the window I'm next to ain't gonna help.

By Sunday, the high's supposed to be 63, and hopefully the wind will settle as well.

Best shot- take your standard nymphing rig and some glo bugs to this place- http://www.actionangler.net/

$5 to park, walk down the trail, and wade downstream past the first major riffle, and then hit the deep/slow spots.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

Agreed bigcliff. The Guadalupe is pretty much my replacement river in winter. And make sure to follow directions on going to 3 rd crossing. 4th is real crowded, though some of the biggest trout are in the deep pools under the bridge. I recommend a prince nymph with a midge or pheasant tail dropper.
