I've had a radical thinning-out of my gear, I'm now left with...

St Croix Avid 9ft #5 (my 'go-to' rod)
    Greys X-flite 9ft 6" #7
    Greys Streamflex 10ft #4
    Sage TXL 7ft 10" #4 (built myself)
    Sage Launch 9ft #5
Greys G-tec 10ft #8 (for light salmon fishing)
    A now-repaired Greys Platinum saltwater 9ft #9 (for pike)

    And the reels...

Lamson Konic 3.5 (with spare spool) and a Velocity II (the original one) 2.0
    Greys GRXi+ #7/8
    Orvis BBS III
Three Greys GLA 90's (plus god knows how many spare spools)
    Hardy Demon 5000
    Sage 2550

I wasted the proceeds on fishing trips, however my room is a lot tidier and doesn't smell of fish as much.

What do you use the Greys Streamflex 10#4 for? What do you think about it Luke?

I guess one has to quantify "youth". I was looking up this thread to get some ideas for a setup for my 15 year old boy. I already have a Pflueger Medalist 1494DA. (I think it's a DA).

As with all things, I was thinking of a decent, inexpensive rod in the event that he doesn't take to the sport. Something like an Eagle Claw Grainger IM7 in 9ft, 5wt 2pc. It would probably set real nice with the Pflueger.

    Me?

    St. Croix Legend Ultra, 7'6" 4pc 2wt with a Cortland 55 (panfish)
St. Croix Imperial, 7'0" 2pc 3wt with a Cortland 55 (small trout stream rod, older model with on-grip reel rings)
St. Croix Avid, 8'0" 2pc 4wt and can't remember the reel (trout rod)
St. Croix Imperial, 9'0" 2pc 5wt with a Ross Flystart 2 (trout, dry fly rod)
Quarrow Drake Big Horn, 9'0" 3pc 5wt with a Albright GPX (trout, streamer rod)
Garcia 6/7 (can't remember the model or length, but it's 2pc)
It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.
What manner of jackassery will I be subjected to today?

Float tubin' and bugging for Grayling.

I really like the streamflex range, bar the 6ft 6" #3, which is horribly stiff for a small stream rod (then again I use the TXL for my jungle warfare). The triangular cordura rod tube is a nice feature, as it doesn't bang around and get scratched in the back of the car.

The rods I actually use are my 9'6" Reddington Crosswater 7 weight and my
9' TFO 5 weight pro series. I use a Hobs creek reel, for $40 it is an amazing reel, and I have a couple cabelas reels that were $30 but not bad reels.

I have a split bamboo rod that pretty old so I don't use it, an old Heddon 8 weight glass rod, and another rod thats just complete junk so I don't use it.

Scotts V2 8'6 5 wt accompanied by Orvis Rocky Mountian reel
Orvis TLS power matrix 9' 8 wt with a beautiful silver Orvis Large Arbor Reel

I started with a crystal river 7'6 5 wt when i was really young, like when i was 4 years old. Since, I bought the Scotts a little over 7 years ago and i absolutely love it. It is one of those rods that you have taken everywhere and have grown attached too. I will probably cry when it breaks . The orvis TLS is newly aquired for my recent addiction to steelhead. It still has the "new" feel to it, which i am not a big fan of. But i think a couple seasons in and i will feel the same towards it as i do my scotts.

How to people rate the TFO pro series in terms of action? I can imagine that the build quality is reflected by the price. I wouldn't mind a 9ft #4 as a spare rod for my pack.

I bought a TFO Pro Series 9'0 7 wt. for smallmouth fishing one summer and broke it on the first trip out- rigging up. No fault of the rod, I was just excited and did the bonehead thing- stringing the rod and excerting too much stress on the trip. I was able to lash the two pieces together using a piece of bailing twine I found, and wound up catching a couple smallmouth bass that day anyway : )

But I bought it from Bass Pro Shops and was able to replace the rod free, and got another of the same model. I still have it, and it still works fine. I mostly use it for bass and warmwater fish, and to lob heavy flies into the wind out west. A pretty serviceable rod, it makes a nice backup.
